CARE ADVICE TEAK
Teak garden furniture requires maintenance to extend its lifespan. Teak has natural oil in it but will slowly turn gray if you don't treat it, preferably with teak oil. If you want to keep this natural teak look, you should use oil and also follow the maintenance advice to keep your product in good condition for many years to come.
Before teak oil treatment:
- Use fine sandpaper to smooth the surface (polish in the direction of the wood grain). Remove
sand dust with a cloth.
- The furniture must be cleaned and completely dry before the oil is applied. The easiest way to clean the furniture is to use a sponge or soft brush plus soap and plenty of water. In some cases, you may need to use teak cleaners that are available in one of the large hardware stores.
- Leave it outside to dry in the sun - it is very important that it is 100% dry before treatment. On some occasions, the wood fibers can be raised slightly. This can be easily smoothed out by using cardboard material to polish the surface.
- Carefully follow the instructions on the tea tree oil can/bottle and apply the oil with a brush. Again, make sure the table top is 100% dry and clean, if not - mold stains can appear on your furniture.
- Before first use, we recommend that the underside of the table top is also impregnated to reduce the risk of cracking. This is because the side of the table that has been oiled will swell slightly.
Advice on maintenance:
- Clean the product with mild soap and lukewarm water regularly.
- Keep in mind that if you place the furniture near trees - there may be fallout that can create stains. The product should then be cleaned more often.
- Do not cover furniture (for example with furniture covers) for a longer period o
time, as condensation can create black mold spots.
- Do not leave your furniture outside in the garden during the winter. It should be stored in a
storage where the temperature does not go below 0 degrees Celsius.
