The MPPT controller works to compare the voltage of the solar panel and battery and calculates the point where maximum current is obtained and adjusts the voltage to the battery accordingly.

At sunroil temperatures, which occurs in winter when cold outside, the voltage from the solar cells increases and the voltage difference between battery and solar panel is even greater than in the summer. High voltage from the solar panel causes major losses, and therefore an MPPT controller makes even greater use during wintertime or in cold weather.
