Volvo B4B is a straight four-cylinder petrol engine manufactured by Volvo 1944–1956 which was developed for the new Volvo PV 444 which was presented in the autumn of 1944 and began series production in 1947. It is a push rod engine with 3-bearing crankshaft and a displacement of 1,414 liters. It was manufactured in three different versions and in its first version had 40 horsepower SAE. From the mid-1950s, it gained 44 horsepower SAE through changes in camshaft curves and valve mechanism. The third version came in November 1955 and by then the power had been increased to 51 horsepower SAE through the introduction of a new camshaft, new cylinder head, new valve springs, push rods and washers. It was mounted in the Volvo PV 444 and Volvo PV 445 ( Volvo Duett ) until 1956 and was replaced from the autumn of 1956 by the new B16 engine in model year 1957.
